PTO would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you and your families to the East Elementary School. One of the PTO officer’s responsibilities is to talk with you about getting involved in the school. But first, since this may be the first time at East for many of you, we think it is important to explain what the East Elementary PTO is all about.
When school started you automatically became a member of the East PTO. In fact, all parents or guardians of children attending East, as well as all staff are members are welcome and are encouraged to participate in its activities.
PTO members volunteer their time to enhance the educational experience of every child in our school. We are an independent organization and we do not belong to any state or political platform. Because we are a PTO, we keep all of the funds that we raise for our school rather than sending money for state dues or fees, which means all money is spent on the students.
It’s extremely important for PTO to hold fundraisers through various ongoing and event specific programs. These funds enable us to offer many varied programs and projects, all for the betterment of the student’s education. But as you can imagine, to meet all of the goals that we have, we need ACTIVE participation. This is where you come in….
Now we truly understand how daunting volunteering can be. Questions such as: “How much time are we talking about?”, “Will I be required to take on events or committee responsibilities?” or “What is expected of me?” are all normal questions. And we are here to assure you that PTO officers will not force anyone to dedicate more time than they are willing, or to be coerced into any undertaking that they are not comfortable with. ANY time that ANY individual is willing to offer is appreciated.
PTO members all have the same goal- create a better school and educational experience for our children. Volunteering doesn’t mean a huge time commitment. Whatever your time schedule and interests, we have a need for you. We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day, or that don’t even involve coming to the school at all. Come to the first PTO meeting and see what we are all about. We have a wonderful year planned for the students. Becoming active is really easy- and it really makes a difference.
Thank you - PTO officers
